Five Memoirs for Women’s History Month

I’m the worst when it comes to reading nonfiction, but I’m a little more motivated to read memoirs by Black women. If you’re looking for recommendations, read any of the five books below. I purposely chose books from authors who are still living, along with selecting books I’ve actually read.

Bone Black: Memories of Girlhood (1996) by bell hooks

Kinky Gazpacho (2008) by Lori Tharps

The Other Side of Paradise (2010) by Staceyann Chin

The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl (2015) by Issa Rae

Ordinary Light (2015) by Tracy K. Smith

Three memoirs that I would like to read are Negroland by Margo Jackson, Triangular Road by Paule Marshall, and Toni Morrison’s memoir – but she isn’t planning on writing one. Dang!
