If you didn’t catch the first installment of Sheets & Pages, click here for the backstory.
This month I read a few pages from Milk Blood Heat by Dantiel W. Moniz. It’s a collection of short stories that “depicts the sultry lives of Floridians in intergenerational tales that contemplate human connection, race, womanhood, inheritance, and the elemental darkness in us all.”

While I was reading, I wore the Collagen Essential Lifting & Firming sheet mask by Mediheal. It’s supposed to plump up fine lines. Along with collagen, the mask includes peptides, beta-glucan, and aloe vera.
I read the titular story about two teenage girls who become fast friends after discovering they are both figuratively drowning. The story opens with them performing a ritual to bind themselves as blood sisters. It goes on to show how their friendship develops and digs into a game they play where they imagine different ways to die. That’s all I can say without spoiling it for you.

I wasn’t able to complete the story before my twenty minute timer went off, but after removing the mask and finishing my night routine, I read the few pages I had left. If all the stories are as compelling as the first one, I should have no problem reading the rest. My skin felt hydrated after wearing the mask, but I’m not sure if my skin felt more plump. It comes in a pack of five, so perhaps wearing another one might increase my chance of seeing better results.
Join me again next month for the next Sheets & Pages.
